Recently, I’ve been having a lot of celebrations after stepping out and past my comfort zone of telling my story in person.
I joined Toastmasters last month, primarily to get out of the house, be around other people and to meet and overcome my fear of public speaking forever.
Those who know me would scratch their heads because they know I can talk...A LOT…in casual conversations about anything. And, for 34 years, I lead large enterprise projects and meetings to get stuff done.
But speaking about my story publicly, and now, the story behind my business, has been less fun for me. Toastmasters has changed my life by providing a safe place to speak about my work, my soul story and to be validated and rewarded for doing so.
Having a business implies, well, doing the work for the business which requires letting people know about my business so I can actually work with people to change their lives forever.
I hadn’t permitted myself to do so, full-throttle, from all levels of who I am. I needed to clear, without the interference of having a day job, to do so.
How clear are you on what you do day-to-day at work? Are you clear about what story you bring to work? Is your story about your life as purpose?
It was a great honor for me to have Business by Nature, created by Natalie Kent, feature me in her group’s spotlight. She focuses on a natural way of evolving business which resonated with me.
Any newly formed business needs the support of others to grow and I was grateful to be featured in her tribe.
I know that the nature of business is changing. The way of grinding employees down to the nub to get more of the same output is over.
But, companies don’t change. The people within them do. And when they do, the business entity itself changes and transforms when faced with a new way of being.
Life happens on so many level, on the physical and mental levels which most people operate in. Most are less familiar of the “unspoken word” level where 95% of our power and real activity occurs.
The same can be said about corporations - these have their own unspoken word level around the rules of engagement and the overall vibe, often, in the spirit of domination, control, fear and scarcity.
The most common pattern I see in companies is the friction between what the deepest wishes of its employees have (to be seen and heard freely) and what the company’s deepest goals are willing to support (make more money in the competitive marketplace).
It is possible to be able to stand as 100% you and change the undercurrent of a company in a mutually beneficial way.
I have seen during my entire working career how leaders are in the same shitty position as everyone else in the company, of disempowerment. You can’t rely on them to make things better. But, you can help them by helping yourself.
To celebrate how I’m changing myself to change the nature of business, I’m offering a 30% coupon on my services. Money is just a number but has strong stories behind it.
Let me be the first one to jiggle the undercurrent of its “value”. You can jiggle the story behind money, too, by sharing this post with any professional you know who is stressed by a job they hate, but can’t quit, and is ready to make an impactful difference at work again.
A life of purpose is meant to be lived today, not in the future, not after retirement, and not after the dust settles from the next reorg.
