Times are a changin' faster, it seems, than they ever have before. While we can't control what happens beyond the reach of our love for those in our world, your joy is what keeps your world together.
It's your joy and thankfulness for the good, unpurchasable things that fill your life that rings truer and stronger than any political lobbyist, world power, or natural disaster.
A friend of mine's sister lost her house in a wildfire that still rages on in a nearby Southern California county. Despite this, photos of her family rummaging through the ruins of her home with sweet loving smiles made me cry.
A few lawn chairs, a charred Buddha statue, and a humble coffee cup that has the word "joy" on it are the few belongings that remain.
It's their love that teaches me how to rise above the metaphorical and real ashes during these times.
I've written before how times of crisis strip the bullshit of everyday life away that reveal what really matters in life - our friends, family, and the extended hand of a stranger to help us to our feet - not our physically acquired possessions or achievements.
I hope you and yours never have to experience devastation in this manner or that the destabilizing paradigm shifts we're in in right now are needed to help you remember that it is YOUR joy that lights this world. It keeps this world spinning in its rightful orbit during this holiday season and every season of your beautiful life.
Your light stabilizes this world and makes each day worthy of rising to for the rest of us.
